SimpleClosure is building infrastructure to streamline business dissolution and help founders realize value from remaining assets. The company has raised over $20M and serves more than 7,000 companies.
The Communications & Editorial Manager will shape SimpleClosure's presence in startup and founder conversations. This role sits at the intersection of PR, social media, thought leadership, and content strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
**PR & Communications**: Monitor startup trends and founder sentiment to identify timely stories and points of view. Develop PR angles around company news, industry trends, proprietary data, partnerships, and founder stories. Build relationships with reporters and editors. Draft pitches, press releases, talking points, and contributed content. Position SimpleClosure and its leadership as credible voices on startup shutdowns.
**Social Media & Distribution**: Own the social calendar across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and other channels. Turn PR moments, founder stories, company news, and executive perspectives into social content. Develop thought leadership content for the CEO and leadership team. Identify timely conversations where SimpleClosure should participate. Work with design and external resources on visual and video content. Track performance and use learnings to improve future content.
**Story Sourcing & Events**: Build relationships with founders, VCs, lawyers, and ecosystem participants. Identify founders and industry voices with compelling stories. Develop briefs and talking points for panels, interviews, and fireside chats. Work with Community & Events to surface stories from programming. Turn strong moments into PR, social, and thought leadership opportunities.
**AEO & Owned Content**: Partner with Growth to turn stories and expertise into long-term discovery content. Create and edit deeper owned content when warranted. Apply AEO best practices to strengthen SimpleClosure's authority on startup shutdowns. Extend the life of PR stories through owned content.
You'll report to the Head of Marketing and work closely with leadership, GTM, designers, and external partners.
**Requirements:**
- 4+ years of experience in PR, communications, journalism, editorial, content, or related role, ideally within tech, startups, or the founder ecosystem
- Strong news judgment and editorial instincts; ability to recognize timely, interesting stories
- Naturally curious about what founders, investors, operators, and the startup world discuss
- Ability to spot patterns across conversations, news, data, and trends and develop compelling narratives
- Exceptional writing and editing skills across media pitches, thought leadership, social posts, and longer-form content
- Experience developing PR angles, pitches, and media narratives
- Strong understanding of social media and how stories adapt across channels and formats
- Experience managing a social or editorial calendar
- Comfortable interviewing people and extracting compelling insights
- Analytical mindset interested in understanding which stories and formats resonate
- Cross-functional collaboration skills with executives, Growth, Community, design, agencies, and contractors
- Familiarity with AEO and expert-led content for organic discovery
- Video editing experience (plus)
- Experience with YouTube, newsletters, or owned distribution channels (plus)
