Banyan Software is a permanent-capital software holding company that acquires and grows specialized vertical software businesses globally. This Chief of Staff role is part of Banyan's Executive Leadership Program (ELP), a two-year development track designed to prepare high-potential operators for CEO and C-suite roles.
You will work as the trusted right hand to one of Banyan's Operating Leaders, who oversees a portfolio of software businesses. The role is deliberately broad and dynamic: you will move across multiple operating companies tackling different business problems—shaping go-to-market strategies, improving customer onboarding, standing up newly acquired businesses, and executing value-creation initiatives. Rather than a fixed rotation, you own initiatives end-to-end, gaining hands-on exposure to software M&A, portfolio operations, and real operating work that impacts P&Ls.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with CEOs and functional leaders across operating companies to identify priorities and implement the Banyan Operating System, turning strategy into measurable operational improvements
- Leading high-impact, cross-functional projects spanning product, go-to-market, sales, marketing, pricing, and customer success
- Gaining exposure to Banyan's acquisition process, including value-creation plan framing during diligence
- Supporting integration planning and onboarding for newly acquired businesses
- Executing value-creation plans post-close, turning diligence theses into specific operating bets
- Supporting your Operating Leader on critical initiatives and executive decision-making, influencing outcomes without formal authority
- Building judgment, breadth, and pattern recognition required for future general management
The ELP includes intentional development: you will work through experiences spanning go-to-market, M&A, customer, and finance priorities, with regular check-ins, mentorship from experienced operators, and external executive coaching in Year 2. High performers typically move into a CEO or C-suite role within a Banyan operating company or a leadership role at Banyan Software HQ.
You will gain a cohort of high-caliber peers, direct apprenticeship with senior operators, dedicated development support, real operating reps (not case studies), and the fastest track available to running a business.
Requirements:
- Recently graduated from a top MBA program (this cycle is not open to first-year MBA students)
- 2–5 years of pre-MBA experience in an operating role (product, business operations, portfolio operations, or value creation), management consulting, private equity, or investment banking, with a demonstrated record of owning measurable outcomes
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal judgment, with the ability to synthesize complex information and influence senior stakeholders without relying on formal authority
- High learning agility and comfort with ambiguity; ability to get smart quickly in unfamiliar areas, prioritize what matters, and move from analysis to action
- Low ego and high ownership; ambitious but humble, seeking feedback, building trust quickly, and motivated by the work of operating a business rather than by title
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in software, SaaS, or another recurring revenue business; familiarity with vertical software economics
- Experience leading a team (direct people management is not required; this role initially relies on leadership through influence)
