Rula, a Series C mental health technology company, is seeking a Chief of Staff for Engineering to serve as a strategic organizational leader and partner to the Head of Engineering and Engineering Leadership Team. This is a pivotal role as the Engineering organization scales rapidly.
You will shape how Engineering operates, makes decisions, and executes against critical goals. Rather than leading through formal authority, you will drive impact through influence, collaboration, and organizational insight. Key responsibilities include owning operational rhythms, tackling ambiguous challenges, diagnosing friction, and designing actionable cross-functional execution plans.
You will bring innovative thinking to engineering operations, leveraging modern tools and AI to reduce toil and improve processes. You will communicate as a strategic peer to senior technical leaders, translating high-level vision into sustainable organizational success.
Required: 12+ years of professional experience with direct background as an engineer, engineering manager, or technical program leader in a software organization. Demonstrated experience serving as a strategic partner or Chief of Staff to a CTO, Head of Engineering, VP of Engineering, or similar senior technical executive. Proven ability to diagnose organizational problems, design solutions, and hand off execution while tracking progress. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated influence over senior leaders. Experience navigating fast-moving environments with adaptability and resourcefulness. Ability to translate company and technology strategy into clear organizational priorities and measurable outcomes. Personal fluency with AI tools applied to organizational process improvement.
Preferred: Chief of Staff, Engineering Operations, or similar title reporting to technical leadership. Experience in high-growth or rapidly scaling tech companies. Healthcare technology or highly regulated industry background. Organizational design, workforce planning, or change management experience. Prior individual contributor engineering experience with shipped code.
