Viam, founded by Eliot Horowitz (co-founder and former CTO of MongoDB), is a robotics engineering platform enabling engineers to configure, control, and manage robots intuitively. The company is ~100 people strong, headquartered in NYC, and seeking a Chief of Staff to work closely with the founder/CEO as the company scales. This is a strategic operations role at the center of company decision-making. You will have visibility into strategy, planning, customers, investors, board matters, and new business opportunities. The role explicitly is not an executive assistant function—calendar, travel, and inbox management sit elsewhere. Key responsibilities include: taking on high-priority CEO projects (research, analysis, recommendations, execution); owning cross-functional initiatives (new markets, partnerships, pricing, strategic projects); running company planning and leadership rhythm (planning cycles, leadership meetings, business reviews, offsites); maintaining clear visibility on the company's most important initiatives and blockers; working across engineering, product, GTM, and finance to surface and resolve cross-functional misalignment; supporting board and investor work (metrics, materials, updates, financing); synthesizing customer, partner, and market insights for company-wide use; and writing strategy memos and communications that clarify important decisions. Required qualifications: 6+ years in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, management consulting, startup strategy/BizOps, or similarly rigorous environment. Strong analytical and financial skills (modeling, metrics analysis). Technical fluency—not necessarily an engineer, but able to follow technical conversations, ask good questions, and work credibly with engineering and product teams. Excellent writing and ability to clarify complex ideas. Experience taking ambiguous projects to concrete outcomes. Strong judgment about priorities and time allocation. High ownership, low ego, comfort challenging senior leaders, and ability to form independent perspectives. Fluency with modern AI tools. Compensation: $180,000–$220,000 annually, plus equity, comprehensive health benefits (medical/dental/vision fully covered), 25 days PTO, free office lunch, One Medical membership, Citi Bike, wellness stipend, paid parental leave, reproductive health benefits, and annual L&D budget.
