Goodfire is a research company using interpretability to understand, learn from, and design AI systems. The company is backed by over $200M from top-tier investors including B Capital, Menlo Ventures, Lightspeed, and Eric Schmidt, and is headquartered in San Francisco with a team of world-class interpretability researchers and engineers from OpenAI and DeepMind. As Chief of Staff reporting directly to the CEO (Eric), you will be the operational backbone of the leadership team, focused on making the CEO and leadership more effective across all dimensions. This is a high-intensity, high-impact role requiring exceptional judgment, discretion, and versatility. Key responsibilities include: high-volume follow-ups and project management; drafting internal and external communications; recruiting coordination and new customer outreach; event hosting and company offsites; fundraising support; goals planning; and driving cross-functional initiatives that don't fit neatly into existing departments. You will represent the CEO and company internally and externally, requiring strong leadership presence and communication ability. You must have a technical background and be able to understand AI and mechanistic interpretability at a deep level. While you don't need to be a researcher, you should be technically fluent enough to engage meaningfully in AI/product discussions, learn interpretability concepts quickly, and build intuition over time. Required: exceptional verbal and written communication skills; strong work ethic and high output; proven leadership and people management experience; ability to learn quickly; and the versatility to handle diverse, unglamorous work at scale. Preferred: founder or executive experience at high-performing VC-backed startups (Series A or later); experience in fast-paced early-stage environments; familiarity with interpretability techniques and AI tooling; and strong understanding of mechanistic interpretability. The role is in-person 5 days per week at San Francisco HQ, with one company-wide remote week per month.
