Skydio is the leading US autonomous drone company, serving defense, public safety, and enterprise customers. The company is seeking a Cellular Compliance Engineer to drive cellular certification and validation for its autonomous drone products.
This is a hands-on, technical role focused on ensuring Skydio products successfully complete complex cellular certification requirements including PTCRB and carrier certifications. The engineer will own certification planning, test strategy development, and execution across multiple certification programs simultaneously.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing cellular certification test plans and strategies for PTCRB and carrier certification programs
- Providing onsite support at third-party certification labs during test execution, troubleshooting failures, and driving issues to resolution
- Collaborating with internal engineering teams (RF, antenna, software, systems), cellular module vendors, chipset suppliers, certification labs, and mobile network operators
- Troubleshooting cellular certification failures by analyzing modem logs, signaling data, and RF measurements
- Supporting modem configuration, firmware updates, RF parameters, and network settings required for certification
- Tracking certification status, managing retests and waivers, and communicating progress to cross-functional teams
- Supporting pre-certification readiness reviews and RF/OTA validation testing
- Developing and improving internal cellular certification processes and best practices
- Supporting products through the full certification lifecycle from engineering validation through production launch
The role requires up to 50% travel, primarily to certification and carrier test labs. A strong technical background in cellular technologies (LTE, 5G NR), hands-on PTCRB and carrier certification experience, and familiarity with test equipment from vendors like Rohde & Schwarz, Keysight, and Anritsu are essential. Experience with major US carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) and commercial cellular modules is strongly preferred.
