Salary: USD 50,000 - 75,000 / annual
Vinyl Equity is seeking a Business Development Representative to join its sales organization and drive qualified pipeline generation. You will be responsible for outbound prospecting and engagement with senior executives—CFOs, General Counsels, Corporate Secretaries, Equity Administrators, and capital-markets leaders—at innovative companies. Your core responsibilities include conducting targeted research, executing thoughtful outreach via email, phone, and LinkedIn, conducting discovery conversations, and maintaining rigorous CRM hygiene and documentation to support the sales team's deal cycles.
This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week in the Chicago office. You'll operate in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment where processes evolve quickly and you'll have significant agency in defining the company's outbound sales motion in an industry that has remained largely unchanged for decades. Success requires comfort with ambiguity, persistence in prospecting, and a genuine interest in becoming fluent in capital markets, equity operations, and compliance workflows.
The role emphasizes high-agency ownership, first-principled thinking, and thoughtful communication. You will represent Vinyl Equity with professionalism and industry expertise in every prospect interaction. Collaboration with the sales team is essential, as is a demonstrated commitment to operational excellence and hitting ambitious pipeline goals.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree
- Intrinsically motivated self-starter with willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to ask precise questions and articulate complex ideas simply
- Demonstrated ability to manage structured outbound outreach to senior executives
- Ability to build and maintain healthy top-of-funnel pipeline using targeted email, phone, LinkedIn, and industry research
- Comfort operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments where processes evolve quickly
- Demonstrated discipline with CRM hygiene, follow-up, and detailed documentation
- Growth mindset and willingness to iterate, learn, and improve daily
- Ability to collaborate closely with sales team to support strategic deal cycles
- Must be based in Chicago and able to be in-office 3+ days per week
NICE TO HAVES:
- Prior BDR or other customer-facing sales experience
- Familiarity with HubSpot
- Experience selling into financial services, fintech, SaaS, or B2B enterprise accounts
- Exposure to equity management, corporate governance, or capital markets
- Experience at a high-growth startup
