Salary: USD 80,000 - 110,000 / annual

Proton.ai builds AI software for the wholesale distribution industry, helping distributors grow sales, improve product information, and simplify workflows. The company raised $20M in Series A funding (Felicis Ventures, Battery Ventures) and is focused on driving customer growth. As a Business Development Representative, you will report to the BDR Manager and work closely with marketing and sales teams to maintain rapid growth. You'll be responsible for uncovering sales opportunities and fueling the sales pipeline by ensuring Proton is top-of-mind for distributors seeking AI solutions. Key responsibilities include: - Build pipeline through cold calls, emails, and LinkedIn outreach to decision-makers at mid-to-large distributors, tailoring messaging to their business priorities - Start meaningful conversations about how Proton's AI can help distributors grow sales, improve productivity, and simplify work - Qualify prospects, uncover challenges, and book meetings for Account Executives with clear context for handoff - Follow up with leads from events and previous conversations to build relationships and turn engagement into qualified meetings - Represent Proton at industry events and conferences, connecting with prospects in person (approximately 15% travel) - Conduct thorough research on target accounts and pinpoint decision-makers - Experiment with AI tools and build repeatable workflows for account research, contact discovery, personalized outreach, and follow-up - Partner with the BDR Manager to develop and test messaging, sequences, and AI-assisted prospecting approaches - Keep HubSpot accurate with prospecting activity, business challenges, existing systems, buying timelines, and next steps - Share prospect insights with Sales and Marketing to strengthen messaging and campaigns - Reconnect with previous prospects using relevant company news and business triggers Success is measured by consistent prospecting activity, prospect response rates and live conversations, number and quality of qualified meetings booked, qualified opportunities created for the AE team, progression of sourced opportunities through sales stages, and improvements in prospecting efficiency through AI tools and experimentation. This is a hybrid role based in Cambridge, MA, with three days per week in the Harvard Square office. Requirements: - Minimum six months of experience in a BDR, SDR, or similar outbound sales role (one year or more preferred) - Comfortable making cold calls, tailoring outreach, and converting prospect conversations into qualified meetings - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - Natural curiosity about products, mission, and problems solved; ability to become a subject matter expert - Strong listening skills to understand customer needs and concerns - Resilience and ability to view rejection as motivation rather than deterrent - Grit and determination to push through challenges - Creative problem-solving and innovative thinking - Ambitious mindset with drive to exceed goals and improve performance
