Salary: USD 245,000 - 305,000 / annual
Inceptive is building foundation models of life to enable the design of medicines previously out of reach. This role leads the experimental engine—the integrated platform that trains, tests, and iteratively improves AI models for therapeutic discovery.
You will own the scientific strategy and execution of a multidisciplinary experimental program spanning molecular and cellular biology, functional genomics, high-throughput screening, laboratory automation, and translational biology. Working closely with ML engineers and translational experts, you will design experiments that generate high-quality, model-ready data and identify transformative experimental opportunities to expand the company's understanding of biological systems and drug design capabilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining experimental strategy to close gaps in model understanding and therapeutic performance
- Designing experiments to train and evaluate generative and predictive models in collaboration with biologists and ML experts
- Generating high-quality data using scalable methods such as functional genomics, multi-omics, high-throughput screening, and phenotypic profiling
- Integrating assay development, automation, data generation, analysis, and interpretation in a fast-paced environment
- Recruiting and leading a multidisciplinary team of experimental scientists and technology builders
Ideal candidates bring an outstanding track record of innovation in scalable biological assays for therapeutic discovery, molecular design, or functional genomics. You should have deep understanding of how experimental design, measurement quality, and biological context determine what models can learn from data. Experience leading research teams of 10+ scientists, hands-on expertise in mammalian cell engineering, RNA biology, biochemistry, and laboratory automation are highly valued. The role requires in-person collaboration at the Palo Alto lab location and availability for meetings with US and European team members.
