Sportradar is the world's leading sports technology company serving over 1,700 sports federations, media outlets, betting operators, and consumer platforms across 120 countries. We're seeking a Backend Developer to join our engineering team in Mostar.
In this role, you will implement domain logic and definitions within our systems, collaborating with product teams by providing feedback and asking clarifying questions. You'll build reliable, scalable solutions with clean implementations that minimize bugs and reduce support overhead. You'll work independently to take ownership of features from design through production, while continuously learning the business domain, our current technology stack, and emerging tools and approaches. You're expected to actively suggest improvements to technical solutions and domain implementations, especially during planning sessions and retrospectives.
The team operates on a fully on-site, office-first model with five days per week in the office. Sportradar has engineering offices across Europe, Asia, and the US, creating a collaborative global environment with social events and team-building activities. REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong experience with Java
- Solid hands-on experience with Spring Boot (REST APIs, configuration, security basics)
- Good understanding of object-oriented design, clean code, and design principles (SOLID)
- Experience building and maintaining backend services in production environments
- Proficiency with SQL databases and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) including schema design, efficient queries, and indexing
- Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows (code reviews, pull requests)
- Knowledge of messaging and event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
- Practical experience using Docker (building images, local development, containerized services)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of features from design to production
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience with build, deployment, and development tools
- Exposure to Kubernetes (deployment concepts, Helm, scaling, troubleshooting)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Practical experience using AI tools to support software development
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability
- Understanding of best practices and limitations of AI-assisted development
- Comfort integrating AI tools into day-to-day engineering workflows
