Teamshares is a mission-driven startup acquiring small businesses from retiring owners and converting them into employee-owned enterprises through software, education, and community products. The company addresses a gap in the market: 98% of US firms are small businesses, yet few have accessible pathways to employee ownership.
You will serve as Associate Portfolio Manager overseeing 4–6 small to mid-sized businesses in the specialty food and beverage retail sector. Reporting to a senior Industry Lead who retains ultimate P&L ownership, you will drive financial performance, strategic alignment, and day-to-day portfolio support without managing daily operations. Instead, you will influence and coach business leaders to execute on financial and strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include: supporting P&L management and annual planning across portfolio companies; tracking revenue, EBITDA, and cash flow targets; serving as a coach and accountability partner to business leaders; identifying and addressing underperformance through collaborative turnaround strategies; supporting change management during leadership transitions and system implementations; developing growth plans and capital investment strategies; preparing performance reports and serving as liaison between portfolio companies and Teamshares; identifying cross-portfolio synergies in procurement and best practices; and ensuring compliance with legal and financial standards.
You should bring 2–3 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, FP&A, or business operations. Strong financial acumen is essential: budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and P&L analysis. You must demonstrate analytical rigor, build trust and influence without direct authority, move fluidly between strategy and detailed execution, and communicate effectively. An entrepreneurial mindset is critical—comfort with imperfect information, evolving priorities, and limited resources. Willingness to travel periodically to portfolio company locations is required. Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or related field preferred; MBA or equivalent a plus.
