BillionToOne, a publicly traded Nasdaq company, is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join its growing Legal & Compliance team as the fifth attorney. This role offers significant impact in developing and implementing legal and compliance policies, practices, and systems across the organization.
The Associate General Counsel will report to the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, partnering with Finance, Sales, Market Access, Reimbursement, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, and HR teams. Key responsibilities include proactively identifying and addressing legal and compliance risks across product, marketing, commercial operations, market access/reimbursement, R&D, people operations, and finance. The role requires independently identifying gaps in existing policies and processes, driving build-out of compliance infrastructure, and developing processes to ensure compliance with external requirements.
Additional responsibilities encompass advising on company contracts (drafting, negotiating, reviewing, interpreting, and managing strategic, high-value contracts), taking ownership of legal questions in unfamiliar subject areas through research and stakeholder input, and partnering with legal team members to develop infrastructure for lab services and life science operations.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in law firms and/or in-house legal departments, ideally with exposure to life science or healthcare organizations. Required qualifications include a JD, active license to practice law in one or more US jurisdictions, and a proven track record of taking on unfamiliar legal problems with minimal oversight. Candidates should demonstrate comfort operating with significant autonomy and ambiguity in a lean legal team, strong resourcefulness and adaptability in high-growth environments, and experience advising commercial leaders on business strategies, product promotion, sales programs, and transactions.
Experience in commercial compliance, securities/corporate governance, contract drafting and negotiation, intellectual property, and labor and employment matters is valued. Nice-to-haves include startup or emerging high-growth company experience and familiarity with molecular diagnostics, genetic companies, or CLIA labs. The role can be located onsite, hybrid, or fully remote with occasional travel.
