Imprint is a fintech company modernizing co-branded credit cards and payments infrastructure for major brands like Crate & Barrel, Rakuten, Booking.com, H-E-B, and Shell. The company combines advanced payments technology, intelligent underwriting, and customer data to create loyalty programs and financial products without requiring bank charters. Backed by top-tier VCs (Kleiner Perkins, Thrive Capital, Ribbit, Khosla Ventures), Imprint is scaling rapidly toward IPO. As Assistant Controller, you will own the technical accounting function during a critical growth phase, reporting directly to the Head of Accounting. This is a senior individual contributor and people management role with clear accountability for accounting quality, controls, and team development. You will serve as the decision-driving accounting partner: independently researching and applying GAAP/FASB guidance, building internal controls infrastructure, and ensuring financial data is accurate, reconcilable, and audit-ready. You will own technical accounting for high-risk areas including loan accounting, CECL, revenue recognition, and IPO readiness. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining the Technical Accounting Policy Manual, ensuring team reconciliations are complete and traceable to source data (e.g., Snowflake), building an internal controls framework appropriate for a pre-IPO fintech environment, and partnering with data and engineering teams to design a scalable, GAAP-compliant ledger and transaction tagging framework. You will independently research FASB/ASC Codification guidance and build this capability in your team. You will manage and develop direct reports, oversee high-risk accounting areas and day-to-day close operations, and collaborate with an offshore team handling AP and routine tasks. You will use accounting data and operational insight to identify gaps, reduce risk, and improve financial reporting accuracy, while enhancing financial statements for peer comparability and supporting audit readiness. Required qualifications include demonstrated full-cycle technical accounting experience in GAAP-intensive environments, ability to independently research and apply FASB/ASC Codification, experience designing and implementing internal controls frameworks, strong reconciliation skills, experience managing or mentoring accounting team members, background in banking, insurance, fintech, or accounting firms serving regulated financial services, and a CPA license. Big Four background is strongly preferred. Nice-to-have qualifications include IPO or audit-readiness experience, familiarity with data infrastructure, ledger design, or transaction tagging frameworks, exposure to loan accounting, leasing, or revenue recognition, and experience in high-growth, pre-IPO environments.
