Gardens Interactive is seeking an Art Lead to lead and manage the art organization across current and future games. This role owns the health, performance, and effectiveness of the art team across all sub-disciplines including Environment, Concept, Character, VFX, and Animation. You will manage discipline leads while directly managing individual contributors where dedicated leads aren't yet in place.
This is both a strategic and hands-on leadership role. You'll stay genuinely curious about the game itself, regularly engaging with work in progress to spot opportunities and problems early, helping move both the game and art organization forward. You'll work closely with the Art Director, Production, Design, Engineering, and studio leadership, advocating for your team while remaining accountable to feedback, product needs, and cross-disciplinary concerns.
Key responsibilities include leading the art team across all disciplines, managing and mentoring discipline leads, building a culture of ownership and continuous improvement, developing deep understanding of the game's player experience and visual direction, staying closely engaged with work in progress to identify quality and consistency improvements, partnering with Design, Engineering, and Production to resolve blockers, defining and managing art scope with Production, improving art pipelines and workflows, overseeing external art partners, and developing leads and individual contributors through clear expectations and actionable feedback.
You'll bring 6+ years of professional game-development art production experience with multiple shipped titles, significant experience managing and mentoring artists and art leads, strong understanding of multiple game-art disciplines and their workflows, strong product judgment with demonstrated ability to evaluate art in context of gameplay and player experience, strong cross-functional communication skills, experience with external outsourcing vendors, and comfort operating both strategically and tactically. Nice-to-haves include previous experience leading multi-disciplinary art organizations, deep understanding of specific art pipelines, and experience with stylized art and multiplayer games.
The role reports to the Chief of Staff at a fully remote studio that emphasizes thoughtful collaboration, continuous learning, and exploring new ideas.
