Ixana, a Purdue University spinoff, is seeking a Python Applications Engineer to develop software for its groundbreaking Wi-R wireless technology platform. Wi-R is an energy-efficient wireless protocol that uses 100 times less power than Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, enabling high-speed data streaming through a small electromagnetic field.
In this role, you will develop applications and test scripts for Ixana's reference hardware ecosystem, including smartglasses, earbuds, smartwatches, EEG/EMG nodes, smartphones, heart rate monitors, and smartrings. You'll work at the intersection of embedded systems and application development, bringing these innovative wearable computing devices to life.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing Python-based applications for Wi-R hardware platforms
- Creating and maintaining test scripts and automation for Wi-R protocol validation
- Deploying backend services on AWS
- Low-level hardware debugging and firmware testing using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
- Collaborating with IC/system design experts to optimize hardware-software integration
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and test automation frameworks
You should have a strong foundation in Python with backend development experience, familiarity with embedded programming (ideally C), and hands-on experience deploying code to microcontroller units like Raspberry Pi or Arduino. Experience with hardware communication protocols (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, USB) and containerization technologies (Docker, QEMU, KVM) is highly valued. A bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent IoT development experience is required. Preferred candidates will have 3+ years of industry Python experience and an advanced degree in a related field.
