Proxima Fusion, Europe's fastest-growing and best-funded fusion company, is seeking an Alpha Plant Systems Lead to own the design, integration, and delivery of ancillary systems for the world's first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. This is a high-impact, system-level leadership role where you will take full accountability for the tritium fuel cycle, high-voltage electrical power, heating sources, cryogenic and non-cryogenic cooling systems, waste water treatment, and all interconnecting infrastructure (piping, distribution networks, critical facility infrastructure) that bridges these systems with the stellarator core.
You will lead a team of teams translating Alpha's technical requirements into physical delivery, managing both in-house talent and external contractors. This role demands deep technical judgment across tightly coupled disciplines—plasma physics, magnets, cryogenics, manufacturing, controls—and the ability to make impactful design decisions that resolve critical trade-offs. You will drive integrated system design using advanced process engineering, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and 4D assembly planning; own the budget and serve as the primary technical interface with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies; and define safety logic while leading installation, commissioning, and maintenance strategies.
The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of end-to-end infrastructure delivery on major projects from design through construction, commissioning, and handover. Relevant industrial experience in manufacturing, data centers, refineries, chemical plants, or industrial gas production is essential. You must combine strong technical and design judgment with systems thinking and a pragmatic execution mindset, thrive in fast-moving high-growth environments, and demonstrate the ability to manage large internal and external work packages across multidisciplinary teams. This role sits at L4 of Proxima's framework and is based in Munich, with the company operating across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford.
