Via is transforming transportation globally through technology-enabled mobility solutions. As an Algorithm Developer in the London R&D office, you'll join the core Algo group responsible for developing and maintaining Via's proprietary algorithms that power production systems serving thousands of daily passengers and clients worldwide.
You will take full ownership of Via's large and complex algorithm codebase, develop and maintain mission-critical backend services, and directly impact user experience—from faster booking application response times to optimized routing across 50+ countries. You'll work closely with DevOps teams, algorithm developers, and researchers to solve large-scale transportation problems.
The role requires a strong foundation in computer science or mathematics with at least 3 years of hands-on backend development experience, primarily in Python. You should have solid software engineering fundamentals (git, CI/CD, code architecture) and ideally experience with cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes) and cloud system architecture. You're a fast learner who can deconstruct complex problems, a pragmatic problem-solver who delivers elegant solutions, and a collaborative team player.
Via offers competitive compensation including equity, a hybrid working model with a spacious office near Chancery Lane featuring weekly team lunches, comprehensive health coverage through AXA, and childcare support benefits. The company, founded in 2012, operates 700+ mobility deployments across 50+ countries and is recognized for its commitment to social good in modernizing public transportation systems.
