Dominion Dynamics is a Canadian defence technology company building an Autonomous Combat Platform (Scout ACP) for RCAF and NORAD missions. You will develop the autonomy systems that fly this collaborative combat aircraft, working directly with mission systems, tactics, simulation, and test stakeholders to translate operational intent into executable behaviour.
In this build-and-deploy role, you'll architect and implement hybrid autonomy using behaviour trees for structured tactical logic and learned policies (reinforcement/imitation learning) for adaptive decision-making. You'll elicit and codify tactical behaviour by working with pilots, tacticians, and capability stakeholders to translate combat employment into clear, testable autonomy requirements.
Key responsibilities include designing multi-agent coordination and teaming behaviour across cooperating platforms, developing and validating autonomy in the AuraSim digital proving ground, training and validating learned policies within the RL pipeline, and conducting full verification and validation through the safety and constraint enforcement lifecycle. You'll take behaviours from simulation to test platforms, supporting integration with the runtime autonomy stack, HIL/SIL testing, and flight-test operations. You'll also analyse mission data and logs to diagnose failures and refine behaviour models, collaborating across simulation, sensors/perception, hardware, and flight test teams.
Required qualifications include strong software engineering fundamentals (Python and/or C++), hands-on experience with behaviour trees and/or learned policies, experience developing and validating autonomy in simulation environments, comfort taking systems from simulation to real platforms, ability to work with operational stakeholders, and sound software practices. Strongly preferred is tactical knowledge of aircraft combat employment (BVR/WVR engagement, sensor/weapon employment, EW/survivability, air battle management), with background as aircrew, weapons/tactics instructor, operational analyst, or equivalent test/training environment. Test-and-evaluation or flight-test experience is a nice-to-have. No defence background is required; the company welcomes candidates who are close to the profile but not a perfect match.
