Reliever is building a financial operating system for volunteer-run nonprofit youth sports associations. These organizations manage hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars annually through dues, fundraisers, sponsorships, and charitable gambling—all on spreadsheets and personal QuickBooks files. Reliever replaces this patchwork with a modern platform combining software, embedded banking, and professional accounting services.
You will be Reliever's first engineering hire and the future owner of its codebase. The initial product build is underway with development partner Blank Metal using an AI-agent harness architecture where agents handle much of the building within a framework of specifications, tests, and human review. You will embed with the Blank Metal team from day one, contributing production code, learning the architecture from the inside, and preparing for a clean handoff. Once the platform transitions in-house, you own it: the codebase, architecture, AI systems, and development roadmap.
This is AI/ML engineering in two senses. The product itself is AI-native, with intelligence in daily close, transaction categorization, document processing, and compliance logic. The development process is also AI-native: every engineer works with agents, and the harness is the development environment.
You will embed with Blank Metal during initial product build, contributing production code and working fluently within the harness architecture. Lead the technical handoff by absorbing the architecture, harness, and operational runbooks so ownership transfers without losing velocity. Own post-handoff development end-to-end, including architecture decisions, release process, code quality, and engineering roadmap. Hold the platform to fintech-grade standards for reliability, security, and data protection.
Design, ship, and improve AI/ML systems at the product core: transaction categorization, automated reconciliation, AI daily close, document extraction for receipts and tax forms, and compliance logic for nonprofit filings. Build evaluation, guardrail, and human-in-the-loop patterns that let AI operate safely in a financial system of record. Extend the harness itself with better agent workflows, tests, and tooling. Partner with founding Product Manager and founding CPA to turn accounting expertise into working software.
You bring strong software engineering foundation with production AI/ML experience—you have shipped systems using LLMs, agents, or ML models in production. You are fluent in AI-native development practices, comfortable operating inside an agent harness with specs, evals, and automated tests. You have experience collaborating with external or distributed engineering teams and taking ownership of codebases you did not start. You thrive in startup environments, energized by ambiguity, comfortable creating process, and biased to ship. You have pragmatic engineering sensibility: choosing boring technology where it belongs, applying AI where it earns its place, and writing maintainable code.
Nice-to-have: genuine passion for youth sports or volunteering experience; experience improving professional services with AI in accounting, legal, or tax; fintech experience with banking-as-a-service, card issuing, payments, or ledger systems; familiarity with accounting data, bookkeeping automation, or document-heavy ML problems like OCR and extraction.
This is a founding-team seat at a venture-backed company co-founded with Rally Ventures. You will have full ownership of an entire AI-native fintech platform with your fingerprints on architecture, product, and company. Hybrid role based in Minneapolis; candidates must currently reside in Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Not eligible for visa sponsorship.
