Fireworks is a Series D AI platform company (valued at $17.5B, backed by NVIDIA, Sequoia, Benchmark, and others) that enables enterprises to build, train, and serve AI models tailored to their data and workflows. The company recently launched Fireworks Nexus, a drop-in platform that routes AI workloads from expensive proprietary models to high-performing open models, delivering 3–5x cost reductions while maintaining quality. You'll join as a Member of Technical Staff—a high-autonomy individual contributor role on a small, fast-moving team. You'll own product features end-to-end across Nexus and the broader platform, including the intelligent router that scores request difficulty and directs work, cost-observability and enterprise-control layers, FireConnect integrations, the developer console, API surfaces, the model playground, fine-tuning workflows, and billing systems. Key responsibilities include: - Building the routing and migration layer that intelligently scores requests in real time and sends routine work to open models while escalating hard tasks to premium providers - Making adoption frictionless by extending FireConnect and Anthropic/OpenAI-compatible APIs so teams can integrate Nexus with a single base URL and model ID - Working across the full stack (React/TypeScript frontend, Python/Go backend, APIs, data layers) to ship polished, production-quality surfaces for deeply technical users - Partnering with Infrastructure, Applied Research, Growth, Data, and Design teams to turn platform capability into developer-loved products - Instrumenting everything you build and using data to identify and eliminate friction You'll operate in a founder-led environment where the product evolves week to week with new models, serving paths, consumption models, and enterprise controls. This is a high-velocity role where you ship fast, make pragmatic trade-offs, and own problems end-to-end from scoping through production deployment. Minimum qualifications: 3+ years as a software engineer with meaningful time shipping user-facing products; strong full-stack skills across frontend, backend, APIs, and databases; proven track record building developer-facing products (APIs, dashboards, consoles, CLIs); genuine end-to-end ownership; strong product instincts optimizing for developer experience; ability to operate at high velocity with extreme ownership. Preferred: experience building on complex infrastructure (inference platforms, cloud services, data platforms, ML tooling); building for deeply technical users where the product surface is an API as much as a UI; comfort in fast-moving, founder-led environments; daily use of AI tools with sharp intuition for great AI developer experience.
