As an AI Engineer, you will architect, develop, and deploy high-performance, scalable AI applications into production. You'll drive the development of intelligent agents and AI-powered features, translating cutting-edge research into practical solutions for enterprise customers. Working closely with research scientists, data scientists, and product managers, you'll define technical requirements and deliver features addressing critical business needs. You'll also contribute to evaluating emerging AI technologies and frameworks to maintain WRITER's competitive edge, while championing responsible AI practices including bias detection, explainability, and safety alignment.
This role reports to the head of AI engineering and offers hybrid flexibility across WRITER's San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle hubs. The company was founded in 2020 and has grown to multiple office locations globally.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of professional experience building and deploying machine learning or AI systems in production environments
- Proficiency in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX)
- Strong foundation in machine learning principles, deep learning architectures, and natural language processing, particularly with large language models
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and MLOps tools for managing the AI lifecycle
- Demonstrated ability to write clean, efficient, well-tested code for scalable software systems
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and passion for tackling complex technical challenges with creative AI solutions
- Ability to collaborate seamlessly across diverse teams, challenge the status quo, and own projects with commitment to impact and excellence
