Fin is an AI customer service agent company seeking a technically-capable Design Leader to head the Design function within its AI Group. The role involves managing a team of 3 Staff/Principal-level AI Designers while working directly with AI Engineers, Scientists, and Product teams in the R&D group.
This is a new type of product leadership role that combines technical, product, and leadership capabilities. The focus is on shaping how Fin's custom AI models behave—how they reason, respond, and improve over time. The experience is defined as much by model behavior, evaluation frameworks, and iteration loops as by traditional UI design.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Design function within the AI Group where custom models and core Fin functionality are developed
- Managing and mentoring AI Designers
- Collaborating with AI Engineers and Scientists on model behavior, evals, and testing
- Connecting user needs, business goals, and technological possibilities
- Defining direction and perfecting AI-driven experiences
- Operating at the AI layer—understanding model behavior, evaluation methodologies, and agent workflows
The ideal candidate demonstrates:
- Strong AI technical foundation (model behavior, evals, agent workflows) without necessarily having done everything end-to-end
- Proven product leadership experience, either through leading teams, building from scratch, or shaping products at scale
- High agency and bias toward building; comfort with ambiguity and speed
- Deep care for quality and user experience
- Ability to raise the bar for surrounding teams
Candidates may come from diverse backgrounds: product leaders who have gone deep on AI, designer leaders moving closer to systems and models, engineers/scientists who care about product and experience, or founders/builders experimenting in public. The title matters less than how you think, learn, and engage with AI product development.
