Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced technology, AI, autonomy, and sensor fusion. The Additive Manufacturing team operates a high-speed prototype development lab supporting critical programs.
You will own FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) prototype builds end-to-end, from initial CAD review through finished hardware delivery. This is not a production environment—you'll work in a high-mix, low-volume prototype setting where technical judgment, quality, and speed are paramount. You'll manage a fleet of eight FDM systems (four industrial-grade machines) while balancing a dynamic queue of 10–20 active jobs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing incoming CAD for printability issues (geometry, wall thickness, orientation, tolerances, supports, clearances)
- Partnering with design engineers to understand requirements and recommend optimal materials, orientations, and build strategies
- Operating, calibrating, and maintaining the FDM printer fleet
- Preparing and optimizing builds using slicer software, including custom toolpath development when standard settings are insufficient
- Sequencing work across machines based on priority, availability, material, and technical requirements
- Troubleshooting failed prints, machine faults, and calibration issues; identifying root causes
- Nesting and batching work to minimize build time, material waste, and changeovers
- Post-processing parts to deliver clean, functional hardware
- Verifying completed work against original specifications before closing jobs
- Maintaining job status, completion dates, and risk communication with engineers
- Developing and maintaining print profiles, process documentation, and work instructions
- Performing routine machine maintenance and shop upkeep
- Supporting material and consumable inventory
- Maintaining safe shop practices and OSHA compliance
- Collaborating with the broader additive team on multi-technology jobs
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of hands-on additive manufacturing experience in a prototype lab, service bureau, or development environment; OR 2+ years with demonstrated end-to-end ownership
- Deep hands-on experience with FDM systems: machine setup, calibration, build preparation, parameter optimization, troubleshooting
- Experience owning additive builds from CAD intake through finished part, including slicer/build-prep software, custom toolpaths, and post-processing
- Ability to evaluate CAD for printability and make sound decisions on material, orientation, tolerance, strength, finish, lead time, and cost
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot print failures, manage multiple active jobs, and communicate technical risks directly with engineers
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Stratasys industrial FDM systems and/or INSIGHT software
- Experience with additional additive technologies (SLA, MJF, SLS, PolyJet, metal additive)
- Background in high-mix, low-volume prototype environments supporting design engineers
- Working knowledge of NX, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools
- Experience with composite tooling, dimensional inspection, or additive process documentation
