Salary: USD 75,000 - 90,000 / annual

OpenGov is a leader in AI and ERP solutions for local and state governments, serving over 2,000 public sector organizations. The Accountant II role is foundational to the company's mission, delivering accurate and timely financial data that enables growth while maintaining integrity in public sector service. Reporting to the Accounting Manager with a hybrid arrangement (four days per week in the Chicago office), this role executes key general ledger accounting activities across monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles. You will partner with the FP&A team and cross-functional operations to maintain sharp and reliable financial reporting. Key responsibilities include executing GL accounting for assigned areas such as accruals, fixed assets, leases, prepaids, and intangibles through journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses. You will contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities by completing deliverables on time and within established procedures. The role involves partnering with FP&A and cross-functional teams to gather information, resolve discrepancies, and support accurate financial reporting. You will assist with external audit preparation by compiling documentation and responding to auditor requests, support the maintenance of accounting policies and procedures, and surface improvement ideas. Additionally, you will research accounting guidance on assigned topics and prepare supporting documentation for manager review. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience), 1+ years of accounting experience in public accounting or industry settings, foundational knowledge of US GAAP and financial statements, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong attention to detail and organizational skills, and clear communication abilities. Comfort with AI-native tools to accelerate workflows is expected. Preferred experience includes NetSuite or similar cloud-based ERP systems, exposure to accruals/fixed assets/lease accounting, CPA candidate status, background in SaaS or high-growth technology companies, and familiarity with government technology or the public sector.
