This Account Executive role is part of IonQ's US Federal Go-To-Market team, focused on bringing quantum hardware, software, applications, and access solutions to the US Department of War. This is an individual contributor position with potential to build a team in the future. The role involves up to 40% travel and can be fully remote or hybrid from IonQ offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain executive-level relationships within the U.S. Space Force (Space Systems Command, Space RCO), U.S. Army (Army Futures Command, PEO IEW&S, PEO STRI), and Test Resource Management Center (TRMC)
- Develop a robust pipeline of opportunities targeting quantum computing for satellite constellation optimization, Army tactical logistics, and high-fidelity test and evaluation modeling; quantum networking for secure space-to-ground communications and resilient tactical networks; and quantum sensing for positioning/navigation/timing in contested environments and advanced instrumentation
- Prioritize opportunities based on potential for enhancing orbital security, ground force capabilities, and test infrastructure modernization
- Navigate the federal acquisition process, lead technical qualifications, and manage RFI/RFP responses
- Execute complex negotiations for defense-specific vehicles including OTAs, SBIR/STTR Phase II/III, and TRMC-specific funding streams
- Mobilize and lead internal IonQ teams (Security, Legal, Engineering) to provide technical depth and compliance for high-stakes contracts
- Partner with delivery and support teams post-award to ensure seamless integration and drive long-term adoption and expansion opportunities
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of experience selling to the Department of the Army, U.S. Space Force, or OSD-level agencies with quota-carrying responsibilities and proven ability to close multi-million dollar platform or infrastructure deals
- Experience selling high-performance computing (HPC), AI/ML infrastructure, or advanced mission systems (hardware or software) to the Department of Defense
- Existing relationships within the U.S. Space Force (SSC, Starcom), U.S. Army (Army Futures Command, DEVCOM, PEO Soldier), and/or TRMC, with deep understanding of their unique mission sets
- Ability to navigate federal procurement processes, security compliance requirements (FedRAMP, IL levels), and National Security hurdles; proven ability to move technologies through test and evaluation phases into Programs of Record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Senior-level relationships (PEOs, Lab Directors, Chief Scientists) within Space Systems Command, Army DEVCOM, or TRMC leadership
- Deep understanding of USSF and Army operational drivers enhanced by quantum technology (orbital mechanics, satellite resilience, electromagnetic spectrum operations, test range instrumentation)
- Experience selling AI/ML, high-performance analytics, or autonomous systems for space operators, ground commanders, or test engineers
- Knowledge of quantum technologies (Compute, Networks, Sensing) as they relate to DoD applications (quantum-secure satellite links, subterranean mapping, ultra-precise test data collection)
- Experience in category creation selling for frontier technology solutions not yet established as Programs of Record
