VAST Data is building a unified data platform for the AI era, integrating storage, database, compute, and data services. The company is seeking a Vice President of Systems Engineering – Federal to lead the technical field organization supporting VAST's U.S. Federal business across defense, intelligence, and civilian agencies.
This is a second-line leadership role responsible for building, leading, and scaling the Systems Engineering organization within the Federal segment. The VP will manage SE leaders and their teams, establish technical strategy for the business, and partner closely with Federal Sales leadership to drive growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Federal Systems Engineering organization and developing first-line SE leaders and their teams
- Building organizational structure, leadership bench, technical capabilities, and operating model to scale Federal business
- Partnering with Federal Sales to define account strategy, prioritize opportunities, and penetrate strategic agencies
- Establishing high standards for technical discovery, solution architecture, competitive positioning, and deal execution
- Developing SE managers into exceptional leaders who can recruit, coach, and elevate their teams
- Remaining actively engaged in VAST's largest and most strategic Federal opportunities, particularly where executive alignment or complex architecture is critical
- Building trusted relationships with senior government technology leaders, architects, and program leaders
- Translating complex mission and business requirements into full-stack architectures spanning compute, networking, storage, data platforms, cloud, and AI infrastructure
- Ensuring the SE organization can articulate VAST's architecture and its relevance to customer mission and technology strategy
- Partnering with Product, Engineering, CTO Office, Support, Alliances, and Sales to align Federal requirements with VAST innovation
- Developing repeatable technical sales motions to increase win rates and scalability
- Creating a culture of accountability, intellectual curiosity, technical excellence, customer obsession, and continuous development

The ideal candidate is a technical and commercial leader who can operate from the executive level down to architecture, advise senior government technology leaders, shape complex AI and data infrastructure strategies, develop exceptional SE leaders, and engage directly in technically demanding opportunities.
