Duolingo is seeking a VP of Finance to join its Senior Leadership Team and lead Financial Planning & Analysis and Strategic Finance functions. Reporting to the CFO, this role serves as a source of financial integrity across the organization, co-owning Duolingo's financial operating cadence including annual planning, long-range planning, forecasting, and business reviews. Key responsibilities include partnering with the CFO, Board, and senior leadership to provide rigorous financial insight that shapes company strategy and resource allocation; establishing financial principles across the company to ensure decisions are grounded in strong unit economics; serving as a key voice in communicating financial performance and strategy to the Board and investors; defining KPIs that drive operating discipline; leading and scaling a high-performing FP&A and Strategic Finance team of approximately 10 people; operating cross-functionally with Product, Growth, Marketing, Controllership, Investor Relations, and Corporate Development; and driving finance modernization through thoughtful integration of AI, data science, and automation. The ideal candidate has 15+ years of progressive finance experience in FP&A, investment banking, corporate or strategic finance, including 5+ years leading and managing teams, ideally within consumer technology, SaaS, subscription, or marketplace businesses. Deep expertise in financial modeling, long-range planning, and capital allocation is essential, along with familiarity with data science and quantitative methods. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required to distill complex financial topics for executives, the Board, and investors. A strategic, business-minded perspective that balances financial rigor with bold long-term thinking, combined with a low-ego, high-EQ leadership style, is critical. Exceptional candidates may have an MBA or advanced degree in finance, experience in global publicly-traded companies with exposure to earnings preparation and investor relations, deep understanding of subscription economics and consumer product metrics, and experience enabling Finance departments through AI, data science, advanced analytics, or automation.
