The VP, Health Plan Sales is a senior individual contributor role focused on driving new revenue growth through strategic partnerships with health plans. This is a high-impact, commission-oriented "hunter" position with primary accountability for sourcing, developing, and closing net-new health plan customers.
Key responsibilities include prospecting and pipeline development with regional and national health plans; direct outreach to senior health plan stakeholders including behavioral health leadership and payer IT teams; end-to-end sales ownership from initial discovery through proposal, negotiation, and close; consultative sales execution tailored to each health plan's priorities; and deal strategy for complex, multi-stakeholder sales processes. The role also involves market intelligence gathering on health plan trends and regulatory changes, cross-functional collaboration with Product, Clinical, Finance, and Implementation teams, CRM discipline and pipeline management, executive presentations to health plan leadership, and industry engagement at payer-focused forums and conferences.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of healthcare sales experience with strong focus on direct payer/health plan selling, plus 3+ years selling health IT, digital health infrastructure, or enterprise technology solutions into health plans. Required skills include proven quota-exceeding track record in commission-driven roles, deep understanding of health plan operations (network strategy, medical cost management, value-based care), strong consultative selling and negotiation abilities, ability to navigate payer IT organizations and technical buyers, excellent executive communication and presentation skills, and entrepreneurial self-direction. Experience engaging health plan executives and payer IT stakeholders is strongly preferred. The role requires 25% travel to meet clients and company leadership. Comfort with AI tools in daily workflows and willingness to experiment with new approaches is expected. Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
