Salary: USD 227,000 - 315,000 / annual
Ping Identity, a cloud identity platform company headquartered in Denver, Colorado, is seeking a VP, Global Head of Commercial Transactions to lead the global commercial legal function. This role oversees a team of attorneys and contract professionals responsible for negotiating complex technology and commercial agreements with customers and partners, driving deal strategy, and enabling efficient, scalable business growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Commercial Transactions Function: Oversee a team of seasoned attorneys and contract professionals supporting global sales, partnerships, and commercial activities.
- Managing Complex Deal Negotiations: Serve as lead negotiator for high-value, strategic, and complex customer and partner transactions, including SaaS subscriptions, software licenses, professional services, and strategic alliances. Establish deep trust-based relationships with C-level and senior executives internally and externally.
- Operationalizing Contracting: Drive continuous improvement in contract processes, templates, playbooks, and deal enablement. Utilize metrics to measure productivity, accelerate the sales cycle, and manage legal risk.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with Sales, Finance, Customer Experience, Security, and within Legal (Product, Privacy, Regulatory and AI, and Legal Operations teams) to align legal advice with business objectives and ensure compliant, customer-focused outcomes.
- Supporting Strategic Initiatives: Provide commercial legal support for alliances, channel, system integrators, reseller programs, and new market entries.
- Developing Talent: Mentor, coach, and develop a hybrid, global team to ensure strong legal expertise, business partnership, and operational excellence.
- Risk Management & Governance: Advise on global risk allocation, regulatory implications, and contracting strategy to protect company interests and support long-term growth.
The ideal candidate combines strong business acumen, strategic judgment, and leadership skills with deep understanding of enterprise software and SaaS technology. The role is remote with occasional travel to Denver.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school (or equivalent international qualification) and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 20+ years of legal experience with focus on complex commercial and technology transactions. In-house experience at a company with both on-premises and SaaS offerings and/or cybersecurity company experience is a plus.
- Deep understanding of cloud/SaaS contracting, software-to-SaaS agreements, data protection, AI regulatory frameworks, and enterprise sales environments.
- Proven ability to develop, mentor, and lead cross-cultural, global hybrid teams; influence senior stakeholders; and operate effectively in a fast-paced, demanding global business.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and drafting skills with strong attention to detail and business pragmatism.
- Experience using and implementing GenAI tools at scale and training legal team members on productivity applications, contract management tools, playbooks, and scalable contracting frameworks.
