Farfetch, a leading global luxury fashion marketplace connecting customers in over 190 countries with more than 1,400 brands and boutiques, seeks a Senior Legal Counsel - Regulatory for its London office (Old Street, tech hub location).
You will serve as a strategic business partner within the Legal team, advising on regulatory matters across multiple operational territories in conjunction with the international Legal Team. This is a broad regulatory and commercial role requiring someone commercially minded, intellectually curious, and hands-on—able to quickly understand and apply new sets of international laws and regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising on payment regulation, digital regulation, product compliance, and consumer protection frameworks
- Tracking and assessing existing and new regulatory requirements for the Farfetch Group, with focus on payments regulation and implementation
- Identifying, monitoring, and evaluating regulatory risks and enforcement trends; taking proactive mitigation steps
- Developing strategies for and engaging with relevant regulators
- Advising on commercial matters, including contractual agreements with partners and payment processors, and ensuring compliant payment models
- Working on tariffs-related matters from a legal perspective
- Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing commercial contracts, policies, guidance, and legal documentation
- Providing proactive, strategic, and pragmatic advice to the business
- Liaising with external law firms as needed
- Supporting the Group Legal VP, Regulatory Legal Team, and broader business in ensuring compliance
- Using legal technology and AI tools ethically to deliver advice efficiently and help the team adopt these tools
You will work closely with the broader legal team and all business areas in a fast-moving, innovative global business.
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer with at least 4 years' post-qualification experience (PQE)
- Superior analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Prior in-house experience beneficial
- Training preferably from a top-tier law firm
- Experience advising on payments regulation and commercial matters
- Proven ability to assess new international legislation/regulation and apply on a risk-based basis to a business
- Curiosity and ability to absorb information quickly, apply it in assessments, and drive implementation
- Ability to understand nuances and complexities, translating them into commercial, pragmatic, and concise advice in a global business context
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, highly proactive, organized, and efficient; able to work on fast-moving projects
- Ability to work autonomously and well in teams, supervising legal counsel and supporting the Group Legal VP and Regulatory Legal Team
- Excellent communication, organization, and drafting skills
- Driven, forward-thinking, robust, innovative, and agile with commercial acumen
