Join Apple's AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) team to architect and develop next-generation large-scale voice and real-time communication platforms that power seamless customer and agent experiences globally. As a Senior Voice Platform Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of highly scalable distributed systems handling voice signaling, media processing, routing, and real-time communications for millions of interactions.
You will play a key role in architecting, developing, and operating scalable voice infrastructure and real-time communication services used in high-volume customer interaction environments. Core responsibilities include leading the design and development of scalable voice and real-time communication platform components, driving architecture and technical design discussions for SIP signaling, media processing, routing, and session management services, and developing high-performance backend services using C/C++.
You will troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to voice quality, signaling, media flows, scalability, and distributed systems. Collaboration across platform, infrastructure, client, and product engineering teams is essential to deliver end-to-end communication solutions. You will improve platform scalability, resiliency, observability, automation, and operational efficiency while mentoring engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and code reviews.
Additional responsibilities include contributing to long-term platform strategy and reliability initiatives, driving testing and deployment automation, monitoring and incident response improvements, and ensuring production operational excellence.
Minimum qualifications: 5+ years of software development experience using C or C++; experience with real-time communication platforms such as FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, or Asterisk; strong experience developing scalable backend or distributed systems software; strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, load balancing, distributed systems); experience with SIP, RTP, and VoIP technologies; experience troubleshooting production systems and operating highly available services at scale; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred qualifications include experience with WebRTC and modern real-time communication architectures, familiarity with cloud-native architectures and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), experience with scalable event-driven systems and distributed infrastructure technologies (Kafka, Redis), and experience driving technical design discussions and mentoring engineers across teams.
