NALA is a high-growth fintech company building cross-border payments infrastructure for the next billion users. Since 2022, the company has scaled 120x, grown to 150+ employees, raised $50M+ from top-tier investors, and was named to the Forbes Fintech 50 in 2025 and 2026. NALA operates two core products: a consumer app enabling cheaper, faster cross-border transfers from the UK, US, and EU to Africa and Asia, and Rafiki, a B2B payments infrastructure platform. The Collections & Treasury squad is building a new collections product and the financial backbone for the broader business. This includes building infrastructure to provision vIBANs on demand, designing customer-facing APIs for diverse payment strategies, and handling real-world collections challenges across the African continent (including non-card payment methods like STK). As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will own key architecture and implementation decisions for the collections and treasury foundation. Responsibilities include leading design work through RFCs and system specifications, partnering with product and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technically sound solutions, designing and building customer-facing and internal APIs, building reliable infrastructure for vIBAN provisioning and collections orchestration, driving engineering quality standards across API design, testing, and code review, managing delivery by breaking down complex work and sequencing milestones, and making pragmatic trade-offs between speed and correctness—especially critical in financial systems. The role requires deep expertise in Go production systems, financial-grade system design (correctness, reliability, auditability, operational readiness), and API fundamentals. You must excel at requirement gathering—challenging PMs and stakeholders to ensure business intent translates into sound technical solutions. Design-first thinking is essential; you work through diagrams, RFCs, and system visualization before implementation. You care deeply about engineering quality, maintainability, and testability, particularly in financial contexts where "it works" is not sufficient. This is a high-pace, VC-backed environment where priorities shift quickly and ambiguity is normal. The company values engineers who stay calm, make good decisions with imperfect information, and maintain momentum. Engineering culture emphasizes depth before breadth, with engineers embedding deeply in product squads to learn domain and business context before driving broader impact. Ownership includes collaboration—driving work end to end while bringing others along and adhering to chapter standards so solutions scale beyond individuals.
