Planet is seeking a Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer to lead enterprise-wide information security strategy at a rapidly growing space technology company. As CISO, you will serve as a key executive responsible for architecting sophisticated security defenses that align with business objectives while anticipating emerging AI-driven threats and sophisticated global threat actors.
You will own enterprise and third-party cyber risk, balancing confidentiality, integrity, privacy, and recoverability of global assets with workforce productivity. Key responsibilities include: spearheading multi-year strategic plans for information and cloud security with predictive AI defense integration; collaborating with business and technology teams to exceed industry compliance standards; influencing enterprise-wide strategic direction; empowering front-line managers through delegation and professional development; managing departmental budgets and performance accountability; architecting proactive, intelligence-driven risk forecasting models; serving as subject matter expert on security issues including AI governance, secure ML pipelines, and space/ground-station asset protection; orchestrating incident response and business recovery plans; driving security awareness training programs; partnering with legal and procurement on vendor security requirements; monitoring external threat environments; managing ISO 27001, ISO 42001, ISO 9001, and CMMC certifications; overseeing physical security of manufacturing and R&D facilities; and managing international industrial security programs for global clearance reciprocity and multinational contract compliance.
This hybrid role requires 3 days per week in either San Francisco or Washington, DC office. You will build and nurture external networks with industry peers, ecosystem partners, vendors, and government intelligence agencies. The ideal candidate combines visionary leadership with deep security expertise, capable of building a predictive, future-proof security organization at a space technology company operating the largest constellation of imaging satellites.
