Checkout.com is a global payments infrastructure company processing over 10 billion transactions yearly for clients including eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony. The Underwriting Analyst II role is based in Atlanta and sits at the intersection of Risk, Sales, and Legal, serving as a strategic partner in evaluating enterprise merchant applications.
Key responsibilities include analyzing complex enterprise business models and financial statements to assess credit exposure and risk. You will evaluate high-risk verticals including travel, ticketing, securities, and gaming, applying creative underwriting techniques while adhering to internal risk guidelines. The role requires deep financial acumen—deconstructing P&Ls, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to quantify credit exposure dynamically and tailor risk assessments to each merchant's specific nuances.
You will synthesize micro and macro risks into clear, balanced recommendations presented directly to Senior Management, the Credit Risk Committee, and partner banks. Cross-functional collaboration is central: you'll join Sales and Account Management on customer calls, acting as a trusted advisor and the face of underwriting to clients. The role also includes assessing applications for innovative payout solutions like Pay to Card and Pay to Bank.
The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of merchant underwriting or closely related financial analysis experience, with expert-level ability to assess diverse business models and identify credit risk. Strong communication skills, a customer-first mindset, and collaborative drive are essential. Bonus qualifications include familiarity with Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Know Your Customer (KYC), and Know Your Business (KYB) protocols.
Checkout.com operates a hybrid model with three days per week in the office to support collaboration. The company emphasizes real ownership, fewer blockers, and meaningful work from day one, with a culture focused on high performers and cross-functional teamwork.
