Salary: USD 120,000 - 140,000 / annual
Cala Health is a medical device company pioneering non-invasive prescription therapies for chronic disease, starting with hand tremor treatment. The company is expanding its technology platform across neurology, cardiology, and beyond.
You will own end-to-end UI/UX design for Cala's digital experiences across web and mobile platforms (iOS/Android). Working closely with Product and Engineering, you will champion the creative vision, establish Cala's design language, and ensure a coherent user experience across all surfaces.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute end-to-end design from flows and wireframes through high-fidelity UI, interaction, and motion design, meeting WCAG accessibility standards throughout
- Design data visualization flows and clinical dashboards that transform complex medical data into actionable insights for patients and clinicians
- Create and scale Cala's design language and system, including component library, design tokens, and versioning that maps directly to front-end implementation
- Conduct user research, Voice of Customer interviews, and usability testing in partnership with Product Management
- Design multimodal UI experiences across connected devices, including notifications and feedback moments
- Author comprehensive UI/UX documentation, redlines, and specifications with rigorous version control for engineering handoff
- Lead cross-functional design reviews from concept through implementation and scale design operations to support growth in a regulated medical device environment
You will report to the Software Engineering Manager and work in a regulated healthcare environment requiring strict documentation rigor and compliance with medical device usability standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, HCI, Interaction Design, or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years of digital UI/UX or product design experience with shipped web and mobile products, including healthcare platforms for patients and/or clinicians within HIPAA regulations and PHI constraints
- Deep understanding of native mobile design standards (Apple HIG, Google Material Design)
- Deep knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and direct experience developing accessibility-driven interfaces
- Familiarity with medical device usability engineering standards (IEC 62366, FDA Human Factors guidance) and comfort with documentation rigor in regulated environments
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments partnering with Product, Engineering, and QA
- Strong portfolio demonstrating visual design sensibility and end-to-end UX work across connected platforms
- Proficiency in Figma (components, auto layout, variables, modes, Dev Mode, prototypes, design documentation)
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted design tooling for concept exploration and prototyping, with sound judgment about limitations in regulated contexts
- Proficiency in usability testing to validate design decisions
- Experience creating and scaling design systems including design tokens, plus front-end literacy (HTML/CSS, React, or SwiftUI) to collaborate on feasibility
Nice to have: wearable/embedded UI design experience, regulatory usability testing for FDA submissions or CE marking, AI/ML-enabled product design in FDA-regulated products, or comfort building interactive prototypes in code.
