Relativity Space is developing the Terran R rocket vehicle to deliver payloads to orbit using advanced 3D printing manufacturing techniques. The propulsion team owns engine design from concept through launch and reuse, partnering across manufacturing, test, launch, and integration functions.
As a Turbomachinery Test Engineer II, you will develop and test assemblies for the fuel and oxidizer turbopumps of the Aeon-R engine family. You will work at the intersection of design, development, and analysis, collaborating closely with propulsion development and manufacturing teams to incorporate improvements into future designs and support Terran R's first launch in 2026.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and analyzing turbopump assemblies using structural, thermal, and fluid analysis techniques
- Performing turbomachinery testing and diagnostics, including rotor balancing, interference fits, clearance checks, structural proofing, and leak checks
- Diagnosing and resolving complex turbomachinery operational issues
- Driving projects to completion in a fast-paced aerospace environment
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across propulsion, manufacturing, and integration
You should have 5+ years of relevant industry experience in turbomachinery or aerospace propulsion, with strong fundamentals in turbomachinery design and analysis practices. Experience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and advanced turbomachinery analyses (CFD, structural, modal, rotordynamics) is a plus. This role thrives on autonomy, ownership, and the ability to work through ambiguity while delivering results in a high-impact, early-stage aerospace company.
