Anduril Industries is seeking a Thermal Engineer to join the Hypersonic Air Vehicles team in Costa Mesa, California. This role is ideal for early to mid-career engineers with strong heat transfer and fluid dynamics fundamentals who want to grow into full ownership of thermal design problems on hypersonic vehicle programs. You will support the thermal design and analysis of unmanned air vehicles operating in demanding high-speed flight environments throughout the full development lifecycle—from conceptual design through ground testing and flight test analysis. Your responsibilities will include performing thermal analysis using CFD (STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent) and FEA tools, supporting material response modeling under combined thermal and mechanical loads, and conducting transient thermal analysis for time-varying mission profiles. You will develop first-principles and MATLAB/Python models to inform design decisions, support ground test planning and execution in specialized thermal test facilities, and collaborate with aerodynamics, structures, electrical, and systems engineers on integrated solutions. You will present thermal analysis results at internal design reviews and prepare formal documentation including specifications, test procedures, and technical reports. Required qualifications include an MS or higher degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Applied Physics with focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics. You must have in-depth understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and high-temperature environments, with coursework, research, or industry experience in thermal analysis for aerospace or high-performance hardware systems. Experience with CFD and FEA thermal solvers (through coursework, research, or industry work) and programming in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is required. You must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance. Preferred qualifications include 1–5 years of industry experience in aerospace thermal engineering on rocket, aircraft, or missile programs; experience with thermal analysis in high-speed flight regimes; thermal-structural coupling experience; and exposure to ground testing with thermal instrumentation and data acquisition.
