Salary: USD 86,000 - 149,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced technology, AI, autonomy, and computer vision. The Mission Success team is a cross-functional group supporting all products with product operations, training, adoption, and user documentation.
As a Technical Writer, you will partner with product, engineering, and operations teams to create and maintain user documentation across diverse business lines. Your mission is to deliver accurate, updated, and easy-to-understand documentation on how to use Anduril products, ensuring that front-line operators can leverage complex hardware and software systems effectively.
You will work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, and account teams to understand products, identify user workflows, and close documentation gaps. You will identify relevant stakeholders, lead them through a documentation roadmap with established milestones, engage subject matter experts at the right time, and guide them toward finished user-facing documents that meet customer needs. You will also ensure contract deliverables are accurate, on-time, and in the right format.
Documentation artifacts include technical manuals, operational manuals, maintenance manuals, procedures, checklists, templates, user guides, troubleshooting guides, and release notes. You will partner across all phases of product development. For government programs, you will work with documentation standards such as MIL-STD-40051D and S1000D, delivered via IETMs/IETDs.
Key responsibilities:
- Generate, review, and edit user-focused documentation in collaboration with engineering and operations
- Evaluate and prioritize tasks to support product documentation efforts using data-driven approaches
- Communicate and manage expectations, noting risks with adequate time
- Help build a culture of technical documentation and contribute to living documentation processes
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of demonstrated excellence generating technical documentation for complex hardware, software, or aerospace systems
- Experience writing technical, user-facing documentation
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering documentation (schematics, CAD, software specs)
- Experience building content in a variety of formats (Word, XML, DITA, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with emphasis on explaining highly technical subjects simply
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active security clearance
- Ability to relocate to Quincy, MA if not already local; onsite work required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Military exposure and experience with military technical documentation standards (MIL-STD-40051, S1000D)
- Passion for excellent documentation and user experience
- Previous experience creating technical documentation in Aerospace and Defense for DoD
- Experience delivering content on fast-paced, complex projects with multiple stakeholders
