Salary: USD 105,000 - 115,000 / annual
BETA Technologies is seeking a Senior Aerospace Technical Writer with deep expertise in S1000D specification and CSDB (Common Source Data Base) administration. This role is central to the company's mission of revolutionizing electric aviation through technical documentation.
You will be responsible for writing, peer reviewing, and editing content for engine and aircraft technical manuals that comply with S1000D and ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English standards. Key responsibilities include:
• Writing and editing maintenance, flight, and other technical manuals compliant with S1000D/ASD-STE100 standards
• Using S1000D tools to manage effectivity and applicability across documentation
• Collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) across engineering disciplines to extract source data, observe procedures, and incorporate feedback
• Extracting technical data from engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models
• Working with technical illustrators to provide markups and guidance for graphics
• Using collaboration tools for document workflow tracking
• Meeting project deadlines while maintaining accuracy and thoroughness
You will work closely with the Technical Publications team lead, other technical writers, technical illustrators, and engineers across various disciplines in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree (engineering or aerospace-related field preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of experience authoring S1000D documentation for aerospace, including CSDB administration and peer review
• Deep knowledge of effectivity/applicability in S1000D
• Demonstrated experience with aerospace technical publications subject to FAA/EASA regulatory approval
• Experience coordinating with engineers to extract and validate technical information
• Proficiency in XML authoring and CSDB management
• Familiarity with collaboration tools (Microsoft SharePoint, Slack, Jira/Confluence)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
• Ability to identify roadblocks and find solutions
• Strong track record of mentoring writers and illustrators on S1000D publications
• Thoughtful curiosity about leveraging AI in technical publications
