Overview.ai is a full-stack AI computer vision company deploying GPU-powered cameras and edge inference systems on manufacturing production lines worldwide. We solve inspection problems previously unsolvable with traditional machine vision—high accuracy, fast deployment, operator-friendly experience.
You will be the Technical Sales Engineer for our Vision Applications team in Taipei, Taiwan. This is a vision-first role focused on solving the hardest optical and lighting challenges in manufacturing inspection.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Vision Strategy & Optics (primary focus):
- Design and iterate imaging solutions for challenging inspection problems (reflective metal, transparent plastic, motion blur, awkward geometry, constrained mounting).
- Select and tune lighting strategies: bright field, dark field, coaxial, dome, diffuse, low-angle, structured light, line lights, backlight, multisource setups, polarization techniques, strobed vs. continuous exposure, motion-freezing strategies, and 2.5D photometric approaches.
- Deploy lenses and optical elements: telecentric, macro, high-NA, long working distance, Scheimpflug tilt, filters, polarizers, diffusers, beam splitters, mirrors, prisms for constrained spaces.
- Leverage spectral strategies when needed: IR, NIR, SWIR, multispectral, fluorescence-style approaches.
- Diagnose and solve vision failure modes: reflectivity, transparency, subsurface features, moiré, aliasing, lens flare, vibration blur, rolling shutter, shadowing, contamination drift.
- Develop ability to identify workable imaging approaches by visual inspection, then validate quickly in field.
Project Ownership & Deployment:
- Own customer deployments end-to-end: planning, on-site execution, training, follow-through.
- Drive fast iteration cycles: image capture → lighting/lens adjustments → validation → production-ready setup.
- Train customer teams (process, quality, ops) on daily operation, troubleshooting, re-validation after maintenance, image quality stability.
- Create documentation and "golden configs" for faster future rollouts.
Competitive Positioning:
- Maintain working knowledge of machine vision ecosystem: Cognex, Keyence, HALCON/MVTec, Hikrobot/Hikvision, and other players.
- Participate in pre-sales technical discovery; help position Overview.ai intelligently and identify where incumbents fail.
- Feed market intelligence back to product and go-to-market teams.
Why this role is exciting: You'll solve the hardest vision problems in the world, work with cutting-edge AI on real factory floors, operate with high autonomy and trust, compete against incumbents, and enjoy travel and variety across different production lines and optical challenges.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep, hands-on machine vision experience with heavy emphasis on lighting and optics (not just camera setup).
- Track record solving difficult inspections in production environments (reflective/transparent surfaces, tight geometry, high speed, variable presentation).
- Strong practical knowledge of lighting and lens landscape; understand tradeoffs and failure modes, not just catalog names.
- Ability to operate independently in factories and own outcomes.
- Fluent Mandarin Chinese.
- Working English for collaboration with global engineering/product teams.
- Strong communication skills to explain optical strategies to customers and teammates.
- Based in Taipei, Taiwan, and willing to travel across Taiwan regions.
STRONG PREFERENCES:
- Experience building vision solutions across multiple industries (electronics, automotive, connectors, batteries, packaging, etc.).
- Experience with advanced optical methods (telecentric, polarization, structured light, multi-angle, spectral techniques).
- Comfort running field experiments quickly and methodically (hypothesis → test → iterate).
