Pomelo Care is a virtual medical practice for women and children, offering proactive 24/7 clinical care across pregnancy, postpartum, pediatrics, menopause, and perimenopause. As Technical Lead for Patient Experience, you'll own the technical direction for how patients interact with Pomelo throughout their care journey—from enrollment through ongoing engagement.
Your core mission is ensuring patients are highly engaged and trust the platform, recognizing that earlier intervention and engagement directly improve health outcomes. You'll lead the technical strategy for mobile and web patient-facing applications, shaping the experience for tens of thousands of patients.
Key responsibilities include: leading mobile development strategy and setting technical direction for patient apps; rapidly prototyping and shipping features alongside product and design teams using AI tools to test engagement-improving ideas; steering product direction for critical first-month retention when outcome impact is highest; directly engaging with patients to translate real needs into features; mentoring junior engineers and raising team standards; and establishing technical architecture, patterns, and development practices for patient-facing products.
You'll tackle core problems: driving proactive patient engagement in their own care, personalizing experiences to specific needs while moving outcomes, building habits so patients check in first when issues arise, and maintaining engagement without always requiring clinical intervention.
The role reports to a Senior Staff Engineering Manager and is fully remote within the continental US, with optional hybrid flexibility in SF or NY. Tech stack includes Expo, React Native, React, TypeScript, Kotlin, and SQL.
Ideal candidates have deep experience shipping consumer or patient-facing products (mobile, web, or both); have served as technical leads setting architecture and mentoring engineers; hold strong opinions on building great UX; are comfortable full-stack work in startup environments; are tracking LLM coding agents; and collaborate closely with product and design. Bonus experience includes React Native, healthcare/wellness products, engagement/retention/onboarding flows, and AI/ML or agent-based systems.
