Volta is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform building the computational foundation for the AI era. The company has secured $10B in strategic partnerships, Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz, and a $5B AI Infrastructure Fund. With 100+ employees across London, Palo Alto, and New York, Volta is scaling rapidly toward a US listing as a foreign private issuer.
As Technical Accounting & Policy Director, you will own Volta's Technical Accounting Positions Register and group accounting policy suite under US GAAP. You'll convert complex, novel commercial arrangements—including multi-billion-dollar GPU capacity contracts, project-finance debt, asset acquisitions, SPV/JV structures, and share-based payments across jurisdictions—into audit-ready position papers and policies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and maintaining the Technical Accounting Positions Register, prioritizing and closing open positions
- Researching and drafting technical memos on significant transactions (ASC 842, 606, 718, 805, 830, 326, 460, 470, 835)
- Developing and rolling out the group accounting policy suite as the business evolves
- Reviewing major contracts pre-signature and advising deal teams on accounting consequences
- Leading technical dialogue with external auditors, defending positions and closing review points
- Monitoring new standards and SEC developments, assessing impact and leading adoption
- Supporting US GAAP-to-UK GAAP/statutory bridge decisions
- Building technical accounting capability across the finance team
- Contributing technical content to future F-1/20-F disclosures
You bring 8+ years of experience spanning Big Four technical/audit work and/or in-house technical accounting at complex multinationals. You hold an ACA/CPA or equivalent qualification with deep US GAAP expertise. You demonstrate strong command of ASC 842, 606, 718, 805, 326, 470/835, consolidation, and VIE analysis. You have experience defending technical positions with auditors through first-year or public-company audits. Capital-intensive industry exposure (infrastructure, data centres, energy, telecoms) and IPO/SEC-registrant experience are advantageous. You excel at writing clear technical memos and policies, and you balance pragmatism with rigor—reaching supportable answers at start-up pace without over-engineering.
