OpenAI's Education team is building products that advance how people learn with AI, working across higher education institutions, K-12 districts, and country-level partnerships. The team conducts applied research on how AI affects learning and cognitive outcomes.
You will lead a small team of three senior full-stack engineers building AI-native learning experiences in ChatGPT. This is a hands-on Tech Lead Manager role combining technical execution, product judgment, and people leadership. You will write and ship code, manage engineers, and help shape product direction for how students and educators use AI.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing a team of three senior full-stack engineers
- Building product experiences for ChatGPT Education, ChatGPT for Teachers, and AI-native learning workflows
- Partnering with research teams on field studies, randomized control trials, classifiers, data pipelines, and cognitive-outcome measurement
- Collaborating with Consumer Learning and model teams to translate education insights into broader ChatGPT improvements
- Driving execution across product, engineering, research, go-to-market, and partner teams
- Defining product strategy, priorities, and delivery plans for the education product pod
Ideal candidates have several years of direct people-management experience with engineers, remain highly technical and comfortable with IC engineering work, possess strong product sense and can operate like a GM for a focused product area, can lead senior engineers with credibility and clear technical direction, and are effective at cross-functional influence and communication. Experience in education, learning science, or edtech is valued. The role operates within a large, complex technology organization and requires genuine interest in how AI can improve learning outcomes.
