Parakeet Health is an AI-native voice platform for patient communication in healthcare. The company works with 400+ medical practices across 27 specialties, handling everything from appointment scheduling to insurance checks, prescription refills, and billing—all through intelligent voice agents. Founded 2 years ago, the company has raised $13M+ in VC funding and achieved 10x ARR growth last year. You'll join as an engineering leader responsible for guiding two engineering pods: Platform and FDE (Frontend/Developer Experience). This is a player-coach role where you remain deeply technical while building leadership capability. For the first 6 months, expect a 70/30 split between individual contributor work and technical leadership; the goal is to invert this ratio as the organization scales. Key responsibilities include: - Owning core technical decisions and shipping platform and customer-facing code - Leading by example in code quality, attention to detail, and engineering craft - Mentoring engineers on both technical and career development - Driving ML experimentation and infrastructure improvements - Guiding sprint planning, roadmap decisions, and 1:1 conversations as the team grows - Owning specific technical systems: voice and conversation design at scale, and infrastructure for autonomous agent reliability and safety You'll work on production systems handling tens of thousands of patient calls daily. The technical challenges span audio streaming infrastructure, agent platform reliability, autonomous bug-fixing with proper evaluation systems, and guardrails that fail safely with real patient data. Ideal candidates question the status quo, have strong engineering taste (can distinguish technically correct from genuinely good), care about shipping for real people, and are honest about gaps in knowledge. You treat LLMs as force multipliers and understand that building patient-facing healthcare requires both science and art. You're comfortable with unglamorous work and don't shy away from it regardless of seniority. This role is a trajectory toward full engineering management within 12-18 months as the company scales.
