Astranis is seeking a technical leader to own Tier 2 Network Operations for its satellite communications infrastructure. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with people leadership, overseeing all operational and under-development customer networks that comprise satellite payloads, antenna systems, and ground sites including VSAT hubs. Key responsibilities include leading the design and continuous improvement of operational procedures for network deployment, maintenance, and outage recovery. You will oversee the team during live incidents, coordinate with mission operations and engineering teams for rapid resolution, and drive root cause analyses to prevent recurrence. The role emphasizes automation—eliminating repetitive manual tasks through Python and Bash scripting to improve operational efficiency and reliability. You will partner closely with engineering teams to design and maintain telemetry, monitoring dashboards, and alert pipelines. You'll analyze incoming customer network requirements and architect robust operational solutions focused on maintainability, scalability, and security. Field deployment support is expected, including antenna/RF commissioning and direct customer network integration. Day-to-day technical leadership is central: coaching team members, actively recruiting and interviewing new teammates, and onboarding engineers. This role contributes to both commercial and US Government programs, operating in high-stakes environments where uptime, data security, and network visibility are critical. Required: 3–5+ years of hands-on technical experience in network operations, satellite communications, NOC, or technical support. 0–1+ years of formal people management or demonstrated technical leadership/mentoring. Strong foundational understanding of IP networking (TCP/IP, routing, switching, BGP, VLANs, NAT, DNS) and/or RF concepts. Practical scripting experience (Python, Bash). Proven bias for action, ownership, and high-pressure problem-solving. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Bonus qualifications: Tier 2/3 Satcom or Telecom NOC experience, hands-on familiarity with RF terminals, satellite payload architectures, VSAT hubs, enterprise/carrier-grade hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet), Linux system administration, network virtualization, or containerized environments.
