Modal is building a new infrastructure layer for AI, enabling engineers to run AI workloads without traditional pain points. The company provides instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage for low-latency inference, model fine-tuning, and production-ready sandboxes at scale. Recent customers include Lovable, Ramp, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. Modal recently raised a $355M Series C at a $4.65B valuation (led by General Catalyst and Redpoint Ventures) and has crossed $300M+ ARR with fivefold growth since September. The team includes creators of popular open-source projects, academic researchers, and experienced engineering and product leaders.
As the first dedicated technical recruiter on Modal's Talent team, you will own engineering and AI/ML recruiting end-to-end. You'll work closely with the Head of Talent, founders, and technical leads to shape hiring strategy and bring in the people who will define Modal's future.
Key responsibilities:
- Run full-cycle recruiting for engineering and AI/ML roles: sourcing, pitching, guiding interviews, and closing candidates
- Partner with technical leaders to understand the real work and calibrate on what great looks like
- Help set Modal's technical hiring bar and talent evaluation frameworks
- Execute creative top-of-funnel strategies that resonate with talented, experienced engineers
- Deliver a fast, respectful, and honest candidate experience
- Bring an equity lens to every stage of the recruiting process
- Use data and market context to keep searches on track and expectations aligned
- Support candidates as a trusted guide through high-stakes career decisions
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep expertise in technical recruiting; demonstrated experience with engineering and AI/ML roles
- Curiosity and strong questioning skills; ability to understand how things actually work
- Influence through insight and honesty rather than authority
- Speed and clarity in communication, even in ambiguous situations
- Strong closing ability with early trust-building and proactive concern management
- Resilience when priorities shift; ability to recalibrate without losing momentum
