Sakana AI is seeking a System Infrastructure Architect to design and implement generative AI and AI agent solutions for the defense and public sector. This role involves deep understanding of customer environments—including security requirements, network constraints, legacy systems, and compliance—to propose, design, and build appropriate infrastructure architectures spanning cloud, on-premises, and hybrid configurations, including DDIL (Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, Limited) environments with restricted connectivity.
You will work directly with customer project leads, technically guiding initiatives from conception through production deployment. Key responsibilities include: assessing current customer environments through detailed interviews and As-Is analysis; designing cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructure architectures; implementing security and compliance measures including security assessments, access control design, and network segmentation; developing PoC-to-production roadmaps and leading implementation; and supporting customer organizations through training and capability building for system operations.
Required qualifications include hands-on experience designing and building infrastructure across multiple environments: cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) for high-reliability systems; on-premises and constrained environments including DDIL scenarios; high-availability and disaster recovery design for mission-critical systems; and security-focused infrastructure design with experience in assessments, access management, and network isolation. Strong communication skills are essential—you must translate customer requirements into technical solutions and lead from requirements definition through deployment. Business-level Japanese proficiency is mandatory; business English is preferred.
Welcome qualifications include large-scale infrastructure migrations, hybrid cloud experience, work in defense/government/critical infrastructure with strict security governance, MLOps and AI infrastructure (GPU clusters, model serving), IT compliance and security risk management, government/defense sector experience, and a computer science degree or equivalent. Japanese citizenship is required due to security clearance requirements for defense projects.
