OpenAI for Government is a mission-driven team deploying frontier AI to transform how governments operate. You will join as a Strategy and Operations professional responsible for helping the team decide where to grow and build capabilities to serve government customers. Your role spans four key areas: **Business Strategy & Operations**: Support the growth of a business operations and revenue strategy function. Work with four vertical leaders to develop annual business strategies defining target customers, priority projects, partners, and cross-functional support needs. Build and maintain intelligence on key territories—mission priorities, budget lines, program timelines, competitive positions, and key decision-makers. Participate in weekly team discussions to test assumptions and identify risks. Run quarterly reviews to track progress and adjust priorities. **Secure Facilities & Security**: Partner with OpenAI's industrial security team to forecast secure-space (SCIF) needs, plan buildouts, coordinate personnel access nominations, and track contract-specific security requirements. **Government Innovation Network**: Support OpenAI for Government's advisory board throughout its lifecycle—advisor outreach, selection, contractor agreements, conflict reviews, payment processing, and onboarding. Design and run regular advisor meetings, quarterly strategy sessions, and convenings with clear agendas and materials. Ensure advisor insights integrate into strategy. **Special Projects**: Own and drive emerging initiatives without a clear home. Define problems, develop options, build consensus, and lead early execution. You will shepherd ambiguous, complex work from problem definition through execution, combining strategic analysis with detailed project delivery. You'll build trust with executives, government stakeholders, advisors, and technical specialists, influencing across functions without formal authority. **Requirements**: - Experience in strategy consulting, business operations, a growing technology company, or comparable work combining analytical problem-solving with execution ownership - Ability to build financial models, size markets, assess competitive positions, and translate incomplete data into recommendations with clear assumptions and tradeoffs - Comfort interpreting government budgets and using market intelligence sources (e.g., Janes) to inform investment decisions - Strong executive presentation and memo-writing skills connecting numbers, strategic choices, and recommended actions - Ability to define unfamiliar problems before solving them; learn new technologies and markets quickly; make progress without a fully formed brief - Comfort with a broad remit, moving between strategic analysis, business operations, and detailed project delivery - Ability to build trust and influence across functions without formal authority - Strong judgment and discretion with sensitive relationships, personnel matters, compensation, and security work - Experience managing budgets, vendors, contractors, and competing deadlines - Curiosity about government missions, procurement, policy, and funding; direct public-sector, defense, or national-security experience is valuable - Willingness to travel periodically for advisor convenings, agency engagements, and operational projects - Deep commitment to responsible AI deployment in government
