OpenAI is seeking a Strategy and Operations Lead for Hardware Marketing to build and run the operating system for the company's hardware marketing function. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, partnering closely with Hardware Marketing leadership, Product, Design, Creative, Communications, Finance, Legal, and external partners to bring structure and clarity to a fast-moving, highly cross-functional product area.
Key responsibilities include: building and running the core operating rhythm for Hardware Marketing (planning cycles, reviews, weekly priorities, decision forums, risk tracking, leadership updates); translating business and product priorities into clear workstreams, owners, milestones, and dependencies; creating visibility across planned and reactive work to highlight committed work, net-new requests, and tradeoff needs; driving intake and prioritization processes to evaluate new requests against priorities, capacity, and budget; partnering with Finance and Marketing leaders on planning and tradeoff framing; coordinating with Resource Management, Recruiting, Creative, Production, and Program Management on resourcing and planning inputs; preparing and running key operating forums including readiness reviews, executive check-ins, and cross-functional planning meetings; building lightweight tools, templates, trackers, and playbooks to accelerate team velocity; identifying and fixing systemic issues across workflows, decision rights, and communication paths; and maintaining strong judgment around confidentiality and context-sharing.
Ideal candidates have 12+ years in strategy and operations, business operations, product operations, marketing operations, program management, or related roles. Experience supporting complex product launches or sensitive cross-functional initiatives is preferred. You should excel at turning ambiguous goals into clear plans and operating rhythms, lead effectively across senior stakeholders and creative/product/finance/legal teams, use data tools for alignment rather than process overhead, zoom between business context and execution details, communicate clearly about risks and tradeoffs, thrive building 0-1 systems in fast-moving environments, and leverage AI and automation thoughtfully to reduce manual work and improve team leverage.
The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model (three days in office per week). OpenAI offers relocation assistance.
