Salary: USD 285,000 - 305,000 / annual
Cohere Health is seeking a Strategic Medical Director, Inpatient to serve as a physician-led clinical subject matter expert driving the design, strategy, and innovation of inpatient clinical programs. Reporting to the Managing Medical Director of Clinical Strategy, you will be a fundamental driver of go-to-market efforts, working closely with prospective and current clients (health plans, health systems, ACOs) to understand their pain points and translate clinical needs into technology-enabled solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the vision and evolution of clinical and digital care management offerings as the clinical subject matter expert, collaborating across Clinical Strategy, Analytics, Product Management, Operations, and Growth teams
- Utilize market data, consumer research, and patient analytics to spearhead new approaches to effective clinical delivery services and technology integration
- Serve as physician leader for inpatient clinical program development in partnership with Cohere teams
- Create comprehensive research packages investigating clinical areas and strategic partnerships to strengthen offerings
- Partner with VP Clinical Strategy on new projects and strategic planning for clinical and digital care management strategy
- Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in General Medicine and client-facing discussions
- Support the Growth team by traveling for prospective client meetings and sales opportunities
- Build and expand client relationships by uncovering pain points, delivering solutions, and supporting upsell opportunities
- Provide strategic guidance on utilization management and medical policy programs
- Monitor performance of launched clinical programs and support continuous improvement

This is a remote-first role with approximately 10% travel. Onboarding will include time in Boston, MA, with occasional in-person team meetings and company events.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency training (or AOA-approved legacy equivalent); Internal Medicine or Family Practice training preferred
- Active, unrestricted medical license in any US state
- Active board certification (ABMS or AOA) in primary specialty
- 5+ years of clinical practice beyond residency/fellowship; inpatient experience preferred
- 5+ years of experience in managed care or clinical strategy at a health plan, healthtech/solutions/services, expert consulting (partner-level), or related payer-facing roles
- MBA or advanced degree in healthcare-related discipline preferred
- Experience serving as lead thinker/consulting partner designing innovative clinical programs driving value for payers and members
- Success building credibility, influence, and partnerships with key clients
- Executive presence and effective communication with partners/clients
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence internal partners with understanding of how clinical logic translates into technology-enabled solutions
- Strong communication, team management, and interpersonal skills
- Strong leadership capabilities and ability to initiate and maintain cross-team relationships
- Ability to thrive in self-directed environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet tight deadlines
